I haven't posted in going on 4 months, and I'll not be posting again. I enjoyed posting at one point, but lost interest in sharing my life, and simply don't have time to do it anymore. There's tons of political shit I could comment on, but I'm not even gonna start. So, thanks for checking me out, and take care. Nagin is a lib, and that's how they are. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's the quick scoop. In an MLK day speech, Nagin stated in front of a crowd that he wants New Orleans to be a "chocolate" city, to be a majority African American city because that's what "God wants". As a white male, I view these comments as bigoted. If a white person stated that they wanted their city to be a "vanilla" city, how would that sound? It would sound bigoted, anti black, brown, and yellow. I think Nagin should go hang out with Mr. "George Bush doesn't care about black people" Kanye West. Funny, I despise him, Kanye, because he's a dumbass lib who has alot of money but not many political smarts. I have three songs by Kanye (All Falls Down, Jesus Walks, and Through the Wire) on my MP3 player, but I still think he's a dumbass. Maybe Kanye should take some cues from 50 Cent, who said if he wasn't a felon who could vote, he'd have voted for Dubya. Oh, by the way, anyone remember what happened to Trent Lott after he made some bigoted comments? He stepped down as the Senate Majority Leader. How about Nagin, what are his repercussions? There are no repercussions because normally libs don't have to answer for their actions, thanks to the liberal main stream media.

Women and Marriage

If you're a reader of this blog, you obviously haven't been over the last month because I haven't posted anything. Oops, sorry about that. I've been very busy with a new job, but more on that later. First off, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Or, if you don't celebrate Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, or one of my favorites, Happy Festivus. (Saw Jerry Seinfeld in person recently). So, did anyone notice that the DOW topped 11,000 recently? Most of the mainstream media ingnored it. Why? Because it shows the economy isn't that bad off and is getting better and that makes the Bush administration look good. Oh, and I love SCOTUS confirmation hearings. Geez dems, you made Alito's wife cry! Anyway, the hearings are over so let's just go ahead and have the vote and get him in there. I know he will win by a slim margin (I guess 59-41). What else is on my mind these days.....plenty! Just as the new year started, we Las Vegans got our tax dollar value. Now, if you're a lib reading this, prepare to be pissed off. In early January on the same day in two separate incidents, Metro Officers shot and killed two armed men. One was wanted in New Mexico for MURDER and pulled a handgun from his waistband while being confronted by police..pop pop pop. The other was apparently a stalker who AMBUSHED officers with a handgun and was shot dead by officers. A Metro officer was shot in the wrist or hand on one of these shooting (sorry, I don't remember which) but I didn't hear any more about him so he must be OK. Good job guys. Yea, if you haven't figured it out, I'm a big supporter of law enforcement. Hmmm...what else....oh yea Iran. WTF? It will soon be time to deal with Iran using FORCE. Today they said they will block any atomic inspections, but that they are attempting to use nuclear means for energy only. Does anyone out there actually believe that? I've been thinking about Ariel Sharon recently, and the fact that he is certainly done, even if he recovers. Too bad, because he was the best bet for peace between the Jews and Palestinians.

Now, onto other things. I've been thinking about women alot lately, and not just sexually, though that occupies my mind often. Women with marriage agendas, you are almost certainly doomed with failure (divorce) if you only think of such. Here's what I'm talking about. Ladies, let's say you get into your mid twenties, or maybe you're around thirty, and you're watching or have watched many of your friends get married and some even have children. You're thinking, "when is my turn?". So when you meet a man, that's all you think about. Now, the women around you don't help much, because most of you are alike so you hear things all the time like "why are you still single?" Here is my point, and I'm speaking from experience. If you're in a big hurry to get married, one of two things will happen. One, you will ruin the relationship and you will not marry that man. Two, the guy will marry you and the marriage will suck and be hell for both you, will end in divorce, or will endure infidelity. Ladies that fall into the category I'm talking about, just slow down and ease up. If your boyfriend tells you that he loves you for the first time and the next night you're telling him that you need to be married soon, you're fucking up. Let me pose this question to you. What's the problem with waiting two years to be married? Why do you push to get married in 6-12 months? Now, don't get me wrong. If you've dated a guy you want to marry for five or six years, that's a little excessive. I believe two, even three years is NOT excessive. Too bad there's so many women out there who fall into the category I've just described. If you fall in love and the two of you decide to get married, then so be it. If just YOU decide to get married, you're doomed to failure. To those ladies who don't have a marriage agenda, you're set, nature will take it's course and you'll meet a great guy and marriage will be the next step to BOTH of you after you fall in love and spend time together. I was going to tell you about my new job, but I think I'll save that for another time. Laterz......

Mike

Another Dem Defeat

I'm repeating what Rush had to say today, because it was very well stated. The dems lost another election today, simply because an election was held in Iraq. Not like the elections that were held under it's last regime, when there was only ONE name on the ballot (spider-hole boy), but hundreds of candidates to choose from. Don't let them lie to you, the dems hope for failure in Iraq. On another note, can you believe it's almost 2006? It wasn't long ago I was still living in Dayton, Ohio, and vacationing in Las Vegas with a woman I loved. Fast forward almost a year, and 2005 quickly became the worst year of my life. I suppose 2006 can only be a better year, right? Maybe the best year I've had in a long time? If you don't know what I'm talking about, was it cold under that rock? Stanley "Tookie" Williams was executed by the state of California for not one, not two, but FOUR murders he was convicted of back in....uh 1981? Anyway, he committed the murders in 1979. So of course, I just had to watch some live TV around midnight, and of course, I watched Fox. I liked the young people behind one of their reporters holding the sign that read "Fox Lies". I liked the young moron who every so often exclaimed "Fox Lies". Why all this hatred, or at least dislike for Fox News? Oh, I know why. The same reason the libs cannot stand the GOP. Fox gets the highest ratings, and therefore has the power over the others (you know, CNN, MSNBC, etc). Hmmmmm.....see, these other news outlets just can't figure out how to beat Fox, just like the dems can't figure out how to beat the GOP. Oh yea, Murtha, where do you come up with 80%? Did you make that up? The poll I saw today said 26% of Iraqis wanted the US out. Keep making shit up, we'll call you on it every time. And one more thing.....Keep talking Dean, keep talking. You're the best thing to happen to the GOP since Ronald Reagan.

Mike

What a Dumbass

I'm referring to Iranian president ahmadinejad. They same guy that said Israel should be wiped off the map back in October, now says they should relocate to Europe. Well, I guess that's a better statement than his previous. Dumbass also stated his doubts that the holocaust never happened. Uh, I think they're still thousands of US and Russian troops that can verify that the holocaust was very real, as they liberated the concentration camps. Dumbass. Another thing on my mind. Why are all these idiots trying to save Tookie Williams' life? I don't care what he's done since he's been in the joint, he's being executed for what he did back when. Uh, excuse me, he killed four people, and was CONVICTED and SENTENCED to death. Don't give me that bullshit that he's innocent because there were no blacks on the jury. Larry Elder, a black republican, refutes that, and states that there was one black on the jury, not that it matters. So what do you think? Forgive his sins of the past (murder X 4) because he wrote a few children's books and trys to persuade youths from joining gangs now? Naaaa, I don't think so. He executed a 26 year old store clerk, ate a sandwich and made fun of the gurgling sounds the kid's body made as he lay there dying. I'm out on that note....Dari Alexander is on Fox and she is so yummmmmy. type='text'>Go Air Marshals!

Yea, I know, I haven't been around in awhile. I just haven't felt like writing. I'm sitting here right now, waiting for a TSA press conference on today's shooting in Miami. If you don't know what happened, here's what I've heard so far. A guy starts running down the aisle of the plane, screaming he has a bomb. His wife is present, screaming that her husband is bi-polar, and is off his meds. So he exits the plane, into the "jetway", with Air Marshals in tow. He is told to get on the floor, but doesn't obey, and then reaches into a bag......pop pop pop. So he got shot and killed. Great job guys, here's to ya (as I tip my imaginary beer). I turned the TV on at around 2PM, and of course this is the top story. I watched Fox's coverage until I got the facts available about the story, then decided to check out other news outlets' coverage of the story. I got to MSNBC, and they had some fucker on whining about "why did they have to shoot him, couldn't they use pepper spray, or some other means of taking this man down?". Fucking whiner. Let me put it this way. Some dumbass claiming to have a bomb has exited the plane and is headed back to the terminal, where it's obvious that there are a SHITLOAD of people. He fails to follow their orders, and then commits the act that got him shot. He began reaching into his carry on bag....and got shot. Once again, good job guys. Anyone who whines about why did they have to shoot him.....would you want this guy running into the terminal where you and your family sit waiting on your flight while a few Air Marshals run to catch up with someone who says he has a bomb so they can pepper spray him? I believe our tax dollars were put to good use today. Well, on that note, I'm out.

Mike

Where am I?

Well, I know where I am, I'm still in southern Nevada, Las Vegas to be close to exact. I've not felt like writing in some time, and I can't pin down why. Hell, I haven't even felt like ranting about democrats! I quit my job about three weeks ago, after I had, well, another downward spiral. I quit an hour before I was supposed to be there. I wish I could go back to that day, and change my all morning/early afternoon drinking, but I cannot change the past. Let's just say I was unable to show up to work, and in my non thinking mind, thought it best I simply quit. Ah, fuck it, I was making less than half of what I used to make at my last job. Geez, I think I had one of the lower paid jobs in the casino. So, money has been extra tight the last three weeks, and the poker play has been very sparse. If I sit down with money that I can barely afford to lose, that's called playing with "scared" money, and it leads to poor poker play. So, the play may remain sparse for a short while. I hate being tight on money. I've never been really good with money, but I've normally had a decent amount of it for most of my adult life. I'm single with no children, and had a job that paid me well over $60K a year, so spending was never a big concern with me. Let's just say it's hard for me to not dwell on the past, and where I used to be financially. I keep telling myself to stop looking back, to stop dwelling on the past, but somethings are hard to do. I haven't been drunk in about ten days or so, and haven't had a smoke in three days now. Funny, I don't intend to quit right now, I just haven't felt like spending the cash for a pack. I played two no limit sessions within the last month, that really showed me something. I can play no limit, and aggression can really bulldoze a $1-$3 or a $2-$5 blind table at times. I just have to know when to get up, no matter how rude it might be, to "hit and run". Buying in with five stacks of red and turning it into eight or nine stacks along with two stacks of green in two hours is a damn good reason to get up, especially when I'm drinking. For those of you who don't know about the stacks, a stack straight out of a rack is twenty chips, red equals $5 and green equals $25. So what I was trying to say is I turned $500 into $1300 or $1400 in no time at all. I get to that certain point where I'm up alot....and I need to learn to just leave. I ended up cashing out of that game up a whopping $20 or so. I need to play more tournaments, too. I've played seven no limit tourny's here, and have made three final tables. Seven $42 buy in's and I've cashed a total of $1688. Nice amount of profit. If you can deal with an eleven player table for an hour, the Sahara runs a nice $42 buy in ($20 rebuy/add-on) at 11AM, 7PM, and 11PM everyday. The 7PM one has the most people, and is where I cashed the highest. Three of us chopped up $4k, the chip leader taking $1600, and another player and I taking $1200 each.

I need to pull my shit back together. I thought about going back to Ohio, but what is there for me? Some family and good friends, but nothing else. No real job opportunities. I live in a city full of fucking money, and I've proved to myself numerous times that I can get my share. Not long ago I peered over the edge of a parking garage at the pavement five floors below. I admit, I thought what it would be like to take that leap into eternity and even thought I might be able to do it with a running leap. I don't think about it anymore, because I know I can't do it, thank God. I can't leave and hurt my good friends, and I can't do that to my mother. My father committed suicide when I was eleven, and I couldn't do that to her, even if we barely speak as it is. There's a long story behind those statements, which I won't be getting into. Just imagine coming home from school and finding your old man dead in the garage. He was just 36, and I'm not far from 35 right now myself. Anyway, like I said, I just need to pull my shit together, which I know I can do. I used to be (and not long ago) the guy who seemed to have all the answers, the one people came to for advice. Now I'm the one who is asking for and listening to the advice. A very close friend keeps telling me how good it will feel a year from now when I look back on this period of my life and how I dug myself out from such a hole. I'm out for now......

Mike

The City of Lights Burns

Am I not the only one who tries to suppress a smile over what is going on in France? Terrible, I know, but I giggle a little bit when I see these bands of youths running wild in France. I guess France doesn't have all the answers, like they led us to believe in the months running up to the Iraq war. I read a story in the Las Vegas Review Journal today that made me smile, and realized that there is hope for every situation. Palestinian Ahmad Khatib, age 12, was shot by Israeli soldiers as he played in the street with a toy rifle. It was the muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, when many Palestinian children take to the streets, some brandishing toy guns. 100 yards away, Israeli soldiers were performing a raid to arrest militants, when they came under fire. Fire was returned, and one of the targets was young Ahmad since he was carrying his toy gun. He was fatally shot. Now for the good part. Six Israleis are the recipients of Ahmad's organs. His father said it didn't matter if the recipients were Jewish, Muslim, or Christian. It was a humanitarian matter, so someone else could live, he said.

Mike
Hookers with Business Cards?

In case you didn't know, most poker rooms in Las Vegas are non smoking. So I'm playing late at the Mirage, and take a break from the game to sit at the bar nearby for a drink and a smoke. I had told the dealer I'd be gone for a while, as I intended to relax for about 15 minutes. I slid twenty dollars into a video poker machine, and, since it was late and I was alone, a prostitute sits next to me. She was attractive, and classy in a hooker type of way. Yea, ponder that statement. Anyway, she engages me in conversation, and lets me know in a round a bout sort of way that she could be mine for some "fun". I quickly let her know that she was barking up the wrong tree. Now, what happened next is what cracks me up. She gets up to leave and hands me a business card, in case I "change my mind". Alyssa Entertainment, with a Vegas and a Los Angeles number. Check it out here:

Link removed because it was too long and probably created sidebar problems.

In short, the three were a tank crew that fired on a hotel in Baghdad that killed a Spanish media member and a Ukrainian member. The crew fired because they believed they were fired on, and were cleared of wrongdoing in 2003 stated then Secretary of Stated Colin Powell. Remember when Spain was our ally in the war on terror? Side by side with us in Iraq? Then came the 3/11 Madrid bombing, which dramatically affected their national elections. A new government came in and pulled out of Iraq. That was giving in to terrorism. Now they issue an arrest warrant for three of our boys? It was still first quarter with no score, so I lay there and decided to flip channels. I got to the news channels, and low and behold, breaking news from my home state. Rioting in Toledo, Ohio. I have a good friend that lives there, and another that moved from there less than a year ago. So apparently, some nazi group was to have a march or a rally there. One of those things where you contact the city beforehand and get a permit. The march/rally was cancelled at the last minute, but that didn't stop the gang bangers who had flooded the streets from looting and burning buildings, and clashing with the police. This is exactly what hate groups who have their marches/rallys want to happen. Good job, dumbasses. Oh, and here's the kicker. A resident complained that it was the city's fault for allowing a racist group to come in. Got news for you dumbass, the ACLU attorneys LIVE to file lawsuits against municipalities to protect the rights of hate groups like this. I wanted to bet ND +12 today, but didn't make the bet. They're up 21-14 right now in the second quarter. USC always finishes strong.....but who knows?

Mike

Seinfeld and the Smurfs

See that picture above, I'll talk about it later. I've not posted in a week, I guess I've been busy. I've finally made it to my days off, so I now have some time for writing. I called this post Seinfeld because I think it might end up being about nothing. BTW, Seinfeld is my favorite program....ever. Anyway, the picture above showing a smurf village being bombed is a commercial being shown by UNICEF on Belgian television. Obviously, it's an anti-war message. According to some articles online I've read about the commercial, it seeks attention to what is going on in Burundi, Congo, and Sudan. I'll be honest, I don't know what is going on in Burundi and the Congo, but I've read some in the past about Sudan. Now, I'm not an advocate for war, but this fact remains. In order to improve the situation for some countries, the current leadership must be removed. Often times, this can only be done by military means. Plain and simple, that's just the way it is. Would Milosovich, the Taliban, and Hussein still be in power if not for the American military? Of course they would. Another thought....Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. He said the current weather events of late are nature's answer to world global capitalization. What the fuck is he talking about? What's scary is.....he is the leader of a nation. Before I go, think about this. Most dumb people are so dumb, they don't know they're dumb. Now, if you're dumb, but know you are, are you still dumb? Ponder that. I'd like to consider myself multi-tasking right now, as I keep flipping between Seinfeld, the new season of The Ultimate Fighter, and a show on Fox titled Saddam Hussein on Trial. Oh, obviously I'm sitting on the couch with my feet up and my laptop in place. Now, for my title subject, Bill Bennett. I've heard and seen Bennett at least a dozen times on various news talk shows and television programs in the past, and he seems like a good man. I've spent a bit of time reading about what he said, and what precipitated what he said. If you don't know what he said, look it up on ANY news related website. Here's the exact text of what Bennett said that has caused a firestorm:

"I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."

Bennett said this on his radio show Wednesday, "Morning in America". He quickly added that this idea was "ridiculous and morally reprehensible". Bennett was engaged in a conversation with a caller about extreme justifications for outlawing abortion and he simply threw out an extreme justification himself. Now, before you jump on me, notice that I used "extreme". Now for what I really think. In today's race charged society, after what some have tried to call a racial problem in New Orleans, Bennett's statement, though made only to provoke thought and not malicious at all, was simply stupid to say. Stupid and irresponsible. If one makes a statement like that, those on the "other" side will take it out of context and attack, attack, attack. I don't know what else to say about it, so I'll leave it be.

A comment was left on my latest post (the second one, not the stupid spam one) which I enjoyed. The reader said that my political views and opinions were a bit extreme (thanks!) and that I was a very complicated person. I guess I am. For some reason, this brings me to another thought. Dating. There are plenty of women at work I would love to go out with, but sometimes I feel lost myself so what's the point of letting someone new get to know me right now? Besides, it seems the ones I'm interested in all have a tattoo somewhere. Sigh. Apparently Tyra Banks (wassup baby?) revealed that her breasts are indeed real on her new talk show. Chuck D (rapper turned talk show host) hosts a show on liberal radio, Air America. If you want a really good laugh, listen in to it sometime. Anyway, MSNBC's Tucker Carlson was on Chuck D's show Thursday, and the subject of whites blowing up a levee in New Orleans to flood a black neighborhood came up. Chuck D wouldn't renounce what Farrakhan, and stated that whites could have very well blown up that levee. Now, Air America employs Chuck D, who made these statements. Liberal Lunacy, I'll say no more. Well, I laugh some more.

Mike

Louis Farrakhan

Good evening all, 6:55 Pm in nice and cool Las Vegas (85F!) I wore jeans out last night and will wear jeans again tonight. So last night I made a few bucks playing $2-$4 at Binions with a roommate, and then won just a few more bucks playing $3-$6 at the Fiesta. Didn't have my first beer until about 0300hrs. Sonya, a beautiful Serbian cocktail waitress said in her deep accent after I ordered water "what? no drinking tonight?". But....I didn't drink much at all. There was a group of guys at the Fiesta last night, and one of them was a "bloke" from the UK, Lawrence from Manchester. He was pissed (UK for drunk) and referred to the men as "mate", the waitress and one female player as "love" and said "cheers" each time he won a pot and tipped the dealer. He spoke a mile a minute, and was damn entertaining. Oh, and back to my title. "Minister" Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam has said that the levee in New Orleans was blown up to kill the city's black population. Check it out

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/9/14/201055.shtml

I would like to personally thank Farrakhan for years of laughter. It appears that I have 14 regular visitors, which makes me feel good. If you're one of them, thanks alot, and feel free to comment anytime. I spoke in a previous post about the woman who broke my heart and nearly sent me over the edge, Jenna. Two weeks ago, Jenna came with her mother to visit Las Vegas. They only stayed two nights, and Jenna and I met at a bar at the Excaliber. I was a little nervous about seeing her, because I hadn't seen her in five months. We had an excellent time, we drank, played some video poker, and talked alot. We talked about our good and bad times. She got tired and wanted to go to bed, so I hugged and kissed her goodbye and went and played poker for a bit. I couldn't help but think what a nice visit I had with her. Over the last few months, I've often gotten angry when I think about her and how she ended things. After this visit, I don't think like that anymore. I now look back on our good times and simply smile when I think about she and I. Jenna is a good friend, who I still talk to on a weekly basis. She almost destroyed me, but.....well, that wasn't her intention and it doesn't even matter anymore. Keep tuned, a political rant is coming later today or tomorrow.

Mike

Started my Research

I've not looked up anything about Cindy Sheehan until now. I've done no research to see if it is true as of yet.

Cindy Who ???? What is most interesting to me is that the press gives this little bunch of people who are protesting with Cindy so much air time without discussing Cindy's background. This is a case of more press bias. It has been pointed out on just a couple of media outlets that Cindy divorced her first husband and left her son with him to be raised while she became a political activist for the Democratic Party. She had very little to do with her son in his growing years. She remarried. The 1st husband remarried. The original father raised the son with his new wife. They miss their son and mourn the loss of his life. They have stated that they are very proud of their son and that they agree with the stance of America in Iraq and on terror. They said that their son was eager to serve and to go fight the terrorists in Iraq. He volunteered. How many news stations carried their interview? Not many. So the son dies in Iraq and then Cindy shows up to make a stink. She gets an audience with Bush. That was not enough. She goes to Crawford and demands another audience. How many news stations carry the ongoing saga of Cindy? Practically all of them. Cindy didn't care about her son. She let another woman raise him. Cindy doesn't care about the other soldiers in Iraq. Cindy cares about her liberal, feminist agenda and about using the death of her son to lobby against Republicans and Bush. And the press is helping her. Why? Then 2 days ago, Cindy's 2nd husband filed for a divorce from Cindy. Cindy sounds like a feminist opportunist who did not have the sense of responsibility to even raise her own son. It looks like her 2nd husband is fed up with Cindy. We middle Americans should be fed up with Cindy also. We should be fed up with the press. They manipulate us into their "group think" and into the responses that they want on their polls.

Are these statements about Cindy Sheehan true? I don't know. I, for one, would not be surprised if they are true. A side note, I had a relapse and went on a bourbon binge for about a week. It cost me over $2K. I've given up all drinking during poker, and I think I've finally figured everything about self destructive habits out. I think all of my past depression is due to hard liquor and the self destructive habits that come from it. On that note...I'm rich within three years.......

Mike

Sweet Milk Chocolate and Bad Hearts

Like that title? Two reasons for it, and I'll start with the bad hearts. I was playing $1-$2 No limit Texas Hold'em at Green Valley Ranch, and had turned $200 into about $250. I had KJ of hearts in a weak position, but raised $10 into a $3 pot, just hoping to take the blinds. This table was tight, and medium raises had been taking the blinds. I got one caller, the big blind, who was a fairly tight player. The flop came 336, with two hearts. He bet out $15, and I put him on A3, but figured no hearts. I called, and turn brought the 9 of hearts, giving me a heart flush. He checked, and my dumbass went all in for my remaining $225 or so. He called immediately, which told me that he gambled on a 36. That was very unlike him, but he changed gears at exactly the right time, and got paid off. I said "good hand" and walked away from the table. Bad beat? Yes, very much a bad beat, but that's what I get for going all in without thinking more about it. I learn from my poker mistakes, and this hand will only make me a better player. Now for the sweet milk chocolate. I talked to my online friend Kiesha for a bit last night. I spoke of her in a July post. This woman absolutely captivates me at times. We are very much alike, and sometimes can chat online for hours. Did I mention how beautiful Kiesha is? Wow, this woman is an absolute knockout. She has sent me two pics of herself, and they weren't of someone else, they were her. How do I know? I just know. She's a sweetheart, I can't say much more than that. I've been on a political rant with my friends and roommates for days, but I'm going to leave that alone in this post. Any readers who check this out.....feel free to comment, I wish I had more comments left on here. On that note, I'm out.....

Mike

Why am I not Fuming?

New Orleans. Libs blaming Bush. Why am I not fuming over this? I expected this and was almost looking forward to it. A good friend of mine just called me to rant about Kanye West's comments about Dubya. Apparently Kanye stated that Bush doesn't care about black Americans. I have (of course!) a take on all this, one that I considered just before this storm hit LA. I learned that New Orleans is twelve feet below sea level. I was amazed at that fact. Then, the meteorologists are talking category five hurricane, with the potential for 175 MPH winds. I knew after the storm passed and the carnage began, the blame game and finger pointing would begin. I KNEW, I FUCKING KNEW that Dubya would be blamed. I didn't think that this would turn into some kind of race issue. I read numerous blogs and more news websites than I care to admit, and this thing is now turning into a race issue. Fucking joke. You libs want to blame someone, point the finger at someone? Guess what dumbasses, there is no one to blame this time that you can sue. She's called Mother Nature, and she doesn't have an eight figure balloon insurance policy. I see numerous looters/thugs/ being shot dead by soldiers over the next few weeks. This is simply a logistical nightmare. Imagine how hard it is to move a hundred thousand people in normal conditions, let alone streets/highways that cannot be driven on because of high water. One more thing. Democrats want big government, where the government almost runs one's life. You cannot count on government to help you 100%, or in a catastrophe like this, even at all. So much for big government, huh libs? Oh, and as for the comment on my last post. If you're looting food/medicine/pampers, no, you shouldn't be shot. Loot something like booze or electronics....something you don't need to survive.....die motherfucker. I'm out on that one....

Mike

When You're Feeling Down

Next time you're feeling down, remember that you're not in New Orleans, and that you haven't lost everything you own. Some people say "Why didn't those people leave like they were told to?" Some people can't leave. They are poor and can't afford a hotel room hundreds of miles away, or they are homeless. Maybe they don't have a vehicle. Listen to me, I sound like a lib. I'm the furthest from the left side of the political spectrum, but I think I have enough common sense to understand why some people couldn't leave New Orleans. I feel for those folks. Well, I feel for them until they start looting, then I say fire a warning shot, and then start KILLING them. Fuck, when it comes to shit like that.....rioters, looters, I say KILL them. Give them a warning and them shoot them DEAD. Am I nuts? You decide. I must admit, I'm a little tipsy right now and a little pissed off. I bought a 2000 Dodge Intrepid one week ago and had to leave it at the Fiesta because it was overheating. It started overheating on the way there, so I pulled off into a shopping center. I bought a gallon of premixed antifreeze, put half of it in, and it fucking overheated again. I left it there and got a ride home. I'll deal with it in the morning, when the engine is cool enough to put more coolant in. Fuck. In the meantime, back to my rant. Kent State. Soldiers killing students. A great fucking day for America, if you asked me. If the river in your town is about to break the banks and the National Guard shows up with shovels....I'd say they are there to fill sandbags and help you. If a tornado just ripped up your town and the National Guard shows up with bulldozers and cranes, I'd say they are there to help you. If you burned down the ROTC building the night before and decide to keep rioting and the National Guard shows up with rifles....they are there to KILL you....so fucking leave. Point made. If we would shoot first when a riot erupts and worry about it later, riots will not happen. Make people accountable for their actions, America. On that note....I'm out

Mike

I'm Back

Holy shit, I haven't posted anything in weeks. I have some interesting stuff to talk about, though. First, I'm on a $7,000 run this past week. That's right, 7k! I was just goofing off at the bar playing video poker, and won about $600. I went back the next night, sat at the same bar and won a little over $800. Then I went to the same bar again, and hit a damn large jackpot. I hit a royal flush on a dollar machine that paid me $4,000. I had to show ID to get the money and also received a W2G for tax purposes. Hey, the IRS wants their cut. So I didn't play much Texas Hold'em, until the next night. Monday night, my Friday, I went to the same bar at the Fiesta, and won a little bit of money. The Texas Hold'em game was a joke, so I went to Sunset Station where I got into a $300 buy in No Limit Hold'em game. There was one guy there, one of the biggest asshole fuckers I'd ever seen. He called himself "poker paul". This goof would not look at his cards, and bet $300 into a $20 pot. He pumped up to about $3,000 at one point, while I had gotten up to $500. I got into a key pot with him and his 77 ended up beating my AK, and I found myself down to $100. I bought in for another $300, and quickly moved up. Paul's last hand of the night came against me. He ended up all in for over $1,000 after the flop, heads up against me. He'd been playing shit cards for hours, and I called him after I flopped two pair on the flop, and shithead had nothing but a gutshot draw, which he didn't hit. Hell, it didn't matter because I filled up on the turn. I walked out of Sunset Station up $2,400. Tuesday night, I won almost $1,000 in video poker at the Fiesta again, and another couple hundred at Sunset Station playing $3-$6-$9 Hold'em (they didn't have a no limit game going). So, I paid $60 to enter a no limit tournament at Sahara, and got seventh, which was good for $500. Not a bad week, huh? I don't have much else to talk about......except for that woman, Cindy Sheehan. She's the one camped outside of Bush's Crawford ranch. She lost her son in Iraq, and I feel for her. I also think he's turning over in his grave over what his mom is doing now. Just my thoughts.

Mike

Wassup?

I haven't posted anything in several days, and my last couple of posts have been a bit lame, too. Perhaps my life here in Vegas is a bit boring. I finished with training, and started my new job wearing the suit we're provided yesterday. Now I have today and tomorrow off. Interesting schedule, huh? Work a week, take the weekend off, work a day, then have more days off. I'll be working 245pm to 11pm for the next month, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. Payday is a week from Friday, good times. So, I'll just lay low and probably out of the card rooms until then. I've not seen much politically or current events wise that I feel the need to bitch about and my job, well, it seems pretty much like gravy. At least that's how one of my supervisors put it........"this job is pretty much gravy". I hope so. Well, until I have something interesting to write about, I'll bid you good night.

Mike

HaHaHa Democrats

So the Senate has passed (or is going to pass, depending on which news site you read) a bill which will shield the gun industry from liability lawsuits. Now, this legislation doesn't protect them from product defection liability or breach of contract, or other things like that. It does protect them from lawsuits by the victims of gun violence, and by also from cities seeking compensation from gun makers for whatever reason. I was very surprised to see that that Democratic Senator Harry Reid from NV was siding with the Republicans on this issue. I think it's about time we see some common sense legislation leave our capital successfully. Heaven forbid we blame who is actually to blame in any tragic incident. I don't see how anyone can actually defend the suing of Glock, Colt, or Smith and Wesson as being liable for gun violence. If you think you can, leave a note and try. On another note, I've finished my classroom training for my new job and have the weekend off. I got accused of jokingly"cockblocking" by my instructor. He and I were sitting in the employee dining area when a female employee who he likes to flirt with went by us and entered the smoking breakroom. My instructor and I followed and she saw him and invited us to sit down at her table. I sat down next to her, but didn't say a whole lot. The next day he accused me of "cockblocking" to another guy in my class and we had a good laugh. She was an early 20 something very attractive black woman.....of course I'm going to sit down next to her. I may be white, but I sure has hell don't discriminate when it comes to women. I think it's casino time......later on.

Mike

No Thoughts Whatsoever

So I've gotten up early for the first three of five days of classroom training for my new job, and I despise getting up early. I've worked day shift for less than a year of my adult work life. I'm used to working evenings, where I get off at midnight and don't get to bed until 4am. Luckily, after this week, I'll be working 245pm till 11pm for a month. Sweet, no getting up early. Other than that, I really don't have shit to say. I could tell some stories about two retards in my training class and the stupid shit that comes out of their mouths, but maybe I shouldn't be too hard or honest on my new coworkers here just yet. So I'll just leave that be. I'll write again when I have something interesting to say.

Mike

Before I go to bed....

I'm trying to get to bed, but I put in "Black Hawk Down" in the DVD player and it's hard to stop watching. I have two, ok, three things on my mind right now. The first is....I have to get up in less than six hours. Well, I guess I'll sleep real well tomorrow night. Secondly....Lance Armstrong. Could he be the best American athlete there is? Who else in all of sports dominates his event like Lance does? No one, simple as that. Lance, not only did you dominate the sport of cycling, but you also dominated cancer. Well done, sir, you are a great American. Thirdly....let me think about the military conflicts the United States had been involved in over the last 15 years. 1991, we pushed Iraq out of Kuwait after it invaded for no other reason than oil, money, treasure. In 1993 we went to Somalia, where we attempted to stop genocide by warring tribal leaders. Too bad slick willy pulled us out before the mission was done. Next time you see a documentary on the Discovery Channel or the History Channel, watch and see what those soldiers who were involved have to say about willy pulling them out. Next came Bosnia, and the stopping of genocide. In 2001 and then in 2003 came the liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq from murderous, oppressive regimes. Now, what do these military actions all have in common? The defense of muslims. The United States has made life better for muslims across the world, and yet many in the muslim community hate us and will stop at nothing to kill as many Americans, Westerners, and quite frankly, Christians as they can. I am stating facts, facts that cannot be refuted. I also have an opinion of my own about the Middle East. Since the creation of Israel after WWII, the arab world has tried to destroy it. Remember the Six Day War? My thought is the only reason Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, and Jordan still exist is because the United States has been able to keep Israel from nuking them all. Bed time, later.

Mike

No Limit, Hearts, Laughs and Rain

Hey all, wassup? I went out last night and had the best time. I ate dinner with friends at one of my favorite cafe's, and then played poker for a very long time. I started out playing $2-$4 Texas Hold'em, had some friendly talkative players on either side of me, and did quite well. I then moved to a $4-$8 game, which didn't go so well. Four of us decided to play $100 buy in no limit Texas Hold'em that worked out quite well for me. I ended up close to $200 to the good. One hand in particular I remember. I was playing with one of the regular players, Darrin, and two other players I hadn't played with before. I held Q5 of hearts on the button, and the blinds were $1-$2, so I called $2 to see the flop. It came 774, two hearts. Darrin, to my left bet $5 after two checks, and I called it. The other two callers folded. A Q fell, and Darrin bet another $5, and I went all-in, with about $70. I had the top pair, a great heart draw and I couldn't put Darrin on having a 7. Wow, was I wrong. He called and turned over 67 of diamonds. I had outs....2 remaining queens, and the remaining 9 hearts. Luckily, I caught a heart on the river and took down a $150+ pot. One of the guys I was playing with, Pete, a huge hispanic full of jewelry and tatts, said "damn, that's like the shit you see on TV". We all laughed, except for Darrin, who quickly ran to the ATM. The game ended a bit later, and when I walked outside, it was pouring down rain. The thing other than some friends back home I miss the most is the rain. It's hard to put into words how good the falling rain made me feel. I suppose after you get so used to something and then are denied such.....when you get it again it's that much more sweet. That can apply to damn near anything, rain, love, sex, or hell, even pizza. And on that note, I'm out.

Mike

Passing on Sex

I bet with a title like that, I got your attention. About a month ago, I got a phone call from a woman I used to work with back in Ohio. She's about my age, and we were friends, nothing more. I'll call her Anastasia, or A for short (hey, it's my blog and I can use whatever names I want). So A tells me that she is coming to Las Vegas for two nights, to visit her brother. I met her last night at a casino bar on the strip, and she was "hoochied up", meaning she was wearing a top that revealed a boatload of cleavage. A has a large rack, and was wearing a push up bra. A also has a tendency to do her hair like the did in the 80's, which I refer to as "big mall hair". She was also blonde, but the last time I saw her she was brunette. So we exchanged pleasantries, and I figured she was drunk. She actually said that she couldn't quite figure out exactly where the "strip" was in Las Vegas. I still can't figure out what she was talking about. She tried to explain that she just couldn't understand where it was, because there were off strip casinos in view (Rio, Palms, etc, etc). I still think "WTF?" Well, we talked about where I used to work and where she still does, and several of the people there. About 45 minutes go by, and she has two or three drinks, and we played video poker. She then starts in on me, telling me that she loved me from the day she met me. Now, like I said, we were only friends, nothing more. There was one drunken incident where she came on to me about a year or so ago, but I quickly blew her off that time. She came out and asked me if I'd be with her if she moved to Las Vegas. I quickly told her "NO". She told me that if she didn't have two kids, she would follow me anywhere. Thank God she does have those two kids or I might have a stalker on my tail. She did her damnedest to try and get me up to her room, from rubbing my back to attempting to run her hand up my inner thigh. She tried once to kiss me....and I stress "tried". I eventually told her it was nice to see her and made my hasty exit. Geez, some people turn out to be exactly who you think they weren't. I'm still half expecting a phone call from her blaming the booze along with her apology. I guess the bottom line is I'm not easy and I sure as hell am not a slut. Well, just a funny story I wanted to write about because it makes me chuckle. I guess more on that as I start work. On another note, I am going to make a prediction. Looking forward to Dubya's announcement of his nominee for the Supreme Court tonight, let's say he has chosen Edith Clement, from the Court of Appeals in New Orleans. She was appointed in 2001 for that court....and was approved by the Senate by a vote of 99-0. 99-0! Now, my prediction is Teddy Kennedy will lead the charge against her. I hope I'm wrong, because a Justice that the two sides can agree on without a big fight would be good for this country. But mark my words, I don't think there will be a 99-0 vote this time. The way I see it, if Dubya cured cancer in his spare time, the libs would put him down and say it was only for political gain.

Mike

0530

Most of the nights I don't drink, I have a hard time sleeping, or for that matter, getting sleepy at all. Tonight's one of those nights. I spent over two hours reading other people's blogs, and really enjoyed it. I thought that maybe I should spend my time reading something useful, something that will teach me something. I then thought that reading accounts of other people's lives, their own struggles, won't that provide me with some insight for my own life? I think so, so it wasn't a wasted two hours. I also read what I posted a few hours ago about Jenna. I feel the need to reiterate that I don't hate, despise, or otherwise dislike her. I just get a little worked up sometimes over how everything ended. Since the eastern sky is now lit up, I'm going to try to get some sleep. I hope I have dreams that make me wake up happy and looking forward to the day. Sometimes I don't want to get out of bed and face the day. I hope someday I'm happy again.

Mike

Mindless Rants

Mindless Rants. I don't know why I called this post that because I don't really feel a rant coming on. I actually don't have much on my mind and I'm not even sure what I'm going to write about. After getting fairly intoxicated last night, I didn't drink any tonight. I had to get up early this morning to go and get a "TAM" card. TAM stands for Teaching Alcohol Management, which is actually a class about the effects of alcohol on the body, signs that one is intoxicated (duuuhhhh) and some Nevada laws and Gaming Commission regulations. Basically, a waste of $30 and four hours. I watched TV most of the day, minus a good nap I took in the early evening. I did get to chat online with Kiesha for about two hours tonight, which I did enjoy.

I was sitting with my feet up a bit ago, thinking about relationships. I've only had four serious ones in my adult life, with two of them making it past a year. My last one was the most painful I've had. The woman from Phoenix, I'll call her Jenna. She and I worked together for about three or four years, I guess from 1997-2001 or so. We got to be good friends, and then an attraction grew. We dated for maybe a month, but that didn't work out, mostly because we were coworkers. However, during that month, I really treated her well. I've found that when I really like a woman, I tend to treat her like a princess. We stopped dating, and then our relationship really went to shit. I began to dislike her and went out of my way to mistreat her. Looking back, I feel bad about that and have apologized to her over and over again. She eventually moved to the Phoenix suburbs and I didn't hear from or try to contact her for a long time.

I don't remember if I called her or she called me out of the blue, but she and I started talking on the phone again. She was dating a guy about ten years older than her, and he treated her like shit, which really enraged me. She finally ended things with him, and she and I got to the point where we would talk and flirt on the phone several nights a week. I saw her once or twice when she came to visit (part of her family is still in Ohio) and it was nice to see her. In September of last year we more or less became a couple. I feel that we had an attraction that simply never went away. We then began to speak every night on the phone, and I invited her to meet me in Las Vegas in October. She spent three nights with me and we mostly had a great time. Right now, I can't remember if this was the trip that ended badly, but basically she wanted what I guess I'll call a commitment, and referred to me as "a guy I fuck". I'll be honest, when she said that, it hurt me. She left in the late morning, and I stayed one more night. I had the worst day thinking about her, and really tried to drink her off my mind. I realized through this pain that I really did have feelings for her. I called her the next day and told her that I did want her and what she told me really hurt me. We spoke for a long time and things were good again.

I went to the Phoenix area in November I think, and had a great trip. Phoenix is beautiful, and being fall, it wasn't too hot. I met her mother and stepdad, both of whom I got along well with. It really was a great trip. Our phone calls were still daily, and I was really happy and falling for her. She came to Ohio in December, and she stayed with me the first night there. Neither of us had wrapped the Christmas gifts we'd bought for each other, but we exchanged gifts anyway. I was so content that night, and I told he I loved her for the first time, and I really knew I did. We did have some stress on her trip, because she tried to visit all her friends and family in just a few days, and still try to have time for me. We did have one bad episode, where we spoke about marriage and children. Jenna wanted a child and I didn't. Eventually she seemed to give in, and said that she could live without having a child, but I know now that she lied to me.

We saw each other again in January, once again in Las Vegas. Two other couples came with us, and one person in particular made the trip extra stressful. I'll not go into specifics, but this woman damn near ruined the trip for everyone. On the other hand, one night we saw Penn and Teller's act, and I'll be damned if I didn't end up on stage for one of their acts. Holy shit, I was terrified, but looking back it was pretty cool. Other than the stress created by someone else, Jenna and I had a really good trip.

Jenna went back home and started house hunting. She bought a beautiful home in the Phoenix suburbs. I don't remember how we came up with me staying there for a month or so, but we moved pretty quick and we decided that I would move to Arizona to live with her. I figured I'd have no problem making a living in the Arizona Indian reservation casino cardrooms and online. By this time I had made numerous scores online, including two $5000+ tournament wins. In late February, I flew to Arizona, and she and I spent our first night in her new home on an air mattress. We moved the majority of her belongings in the next day, and the rest the day after that. I helped her buy all the things you need to buy when you establish a new residence. Things then changed. Jenna went back to work, and to put it bluntly, paid little attention to me. This bugged me to death, because I was in a new city, where I knew virtually no one. We had fun, but we also had some trying times. I continued my serious vodka abuse, but I was in such a funk with it I barely knew how much I was drinking. I later found out that this scared Jenna to death, but she mentioned it only once. It was one of my last nights there, and she was a real jerk about it, too. She had been on the phone in our bedroom, and came out to the living room where had been watching TV. I was mixing a drink in the kitchen, and she said "are you just gonna drink and drink tonight?". There was quite a tone to her question. I told her that this would be my last drink for the night. Obviously, I should have known that the amount of booze I was consuming was obscene, but I had six months that I lost all judgment when it came to drinking. If she had mentioned it that first week while I was there, I wouldn't have bought another bottle of vodka. I'd have given it up for her in a HEARTBEAT.

I finally booked my flight home, and left almost a month to the day I got there. I think Jenna was happy to see me go. No, I know she was happy to see me go. When I left to go home after my AZ trip in November, Jenna parked at the airport and went inside with me as far as she could go until the security checkpoint. This time, she dropped me off at the curb. You make your own decision on that one.

Now, one of my best friends and her best friend were a couple in Ohio and lived together. Within a week of my coming home, those two had a monster fight and he came to live with me. Within days, Jenna dropped a nuclear bomb on me. Something happened to me financially that day that was devastating which I'll not discuss, and then she called an hour later. She told me that what happened with our friends breaking up had her rethinking our relationship. She didn't come right out and say it, but Jenna left me that night. I was devastated, and the fact that she left me and the financial incident had me very close to suicide. I mean close. If my friend hadn't been staying with me at the time, I think I might have done it. Thank God I didn't. I called my friend in Las Vegas and told her what had happened, and she said I could come there to live and stay with her family for awhile. I called Jenna and told her that I'd be moving to Vegas, and maybe she and I could talk in the future when we both decided what we wanted. I knew what I wanted, I wanted her. Should I have not have let her go that quick, without a fight? If she and I had lived in the same city, I wouldn't have given up that easy. But Jenna lived on the other side of the country in a city where I didn't know anyone. I wasn't going to move there and be with someone who didn't want me around. I gave up all drinking for a solid week, and haven't had but one vodka drink since. I'll never buy another bottle of vodka again. My friend and I packed up and moved the end of May, and here I am now, a Nevada resident.

Now from reading this post, you might think I despise Jenna, but I don't. We speak two or three times a week on the phone. There's been one night where I bitched long and hard at her, and I'm surprised she didn't hang up on me. Looking back, I really wish she'd mentioned sooner that my drinking scared her that much. I'm not advocating trying to change your mate, but perhaps something needs to be said when pertaining to such a self destructive habit, like I had at the time. I feel that honesty and communication are two of most important things that make a relationship work. Jenna simply failed to communicate with me over something that bothered her so bad, and that is the biggest reason she and I aren't a couple. I'm not placing all the blame on her, but quite a bit of it. Am I being fair? Sometimes I think I am, sometimes not. I've learned so much about myself through this breakup, and can honestly say it was the lowest point in my life. If you actually read through all of this, you should probably get a gold star. Later on.

Mike

The LAPD.....damned if you do, damned if you don't

On Monday, a 34 year old CRIMINAL and his 19 month old daughter were shot dead by the LAPD in the Watts area. I'll relay the events as reported by LATIMES.COM and then my scathing commentary.

Monday, at approximately 350pm, officers are sent on an "unknown trouble" call. Upon arrival, they encounter 34 year old Jose Raul Pena, standing at an intersection near his auto repair shop holding a firearm. Shots are fired at police, who return fire. Pena, apparently not hit, runs into his shop. He emerges, with his 19 month old daughter, Susie Pena, in his arms, FIRING at officers. Stop and think about that for a minute. He moves forward with his CHILD in hand, shooting at the police. He then retreats into his shop again.

At approximately 5pm, contact by phone is finally established with Pena, who says he's not going to prison. Shortly after that, his 17 year old step daughter emerges from the shop, and runs to police. The area she's in is gated, and police are forced to pry open a fenced gate so she can escape. Pena fires at her and police. Now, the LAPD, had dealth with Pena's wife earlier in the afternoon, who informed them that Pena had threatened to kill her, his stepdaughter, and his OWN daughter. This is the wife that advised the LAPD of such.

At approximately 630pm, an LAPD SWAT officer sees Pena near the back door of the shop, without the toddler. Shots are exchanged, and Pena falls back. LAPD thinks he may be wounded, so LAPD move in. Pena retreats into a small, walled office. He fires at officers through the walls. LAPD holds their fire until they can get to the door, to physically see where the toddler is. LAPD officer D. Sanchez is hit by Pena's gunfire in the shoulder. LAPD pushes forward to the door, gunfire is exchanged and Pena is killed, and so is Susie.

Now comes the aftermath. It has been confirmed that an LAPD bullet killed the child, and so the protests begin. The family, obviously distraught, is now talking highly about Pena and of course, blaming the LAPD for everything. Here's my take. Are you people fucking kidding me? The wife called the police earlier in the day and told them how Pena had threatened to kill her, her stepdaughter, and his daughter. Now, she's saying how he was an affectionate and involved father. She also stated that he was trying to surrender when he was shot. Hmmm...was this before or after he shot a police officer? Give me a fucking break. This is so typical of our society.....blameless. If one can blame the government, specifically a law enforcement agency, why not? Maybe she'll win the LAPD lawsuit lottery. The family's attorney, Luis Carrillo, stated that this is just another incident in the long history of excessive force the LAPD has used against minorities. I'm not even going to get started on all the letters written to the op-ed pages about this incident bashing the police.

Now don't get me wrong, I feel for that little girl and her family. I also feel for those LAPD officers who fired their weapons. I can only imagine what they're going through after this incident. Let's focus on who started and orchestrated every move in this incident, Pena. He's the guilty one, and the sole person to blame.

Mike

Running Bad and Bad Attitudes

Hey....if you recognize the title, then you're a card player. I've been running bad for about five sessions now. You know how it is....start with AK suited....raise pre flop in position (the fucking button), and get three callers. The flop comes 8-7-Q, rainbow, but none of my suit. The players all check to me, so I bet out. I get two callers. The turn comes a 4 to complete the rainbow, and I get bet into. My AK is dead now to a weak Q or possibly someone playing rags and getting two pair. So I fold.....another wasted monster. That's what I call running bad. I know when I'm beat, and when to lay down a good hand, but the money I put in the pot is now gone. I've seen similar hands so often over the last week it makes me sick. How do you combat running bad? You re-evaluate your game....every aspect of it. Look at the starting cards you have, how you've played them, and how your opponents play, and how you react to their actions. I look back, and I've only played my tier one or two starting hands, and have simply gotten beat on the flop or the turn. I have incredible reads on my opponents, and it's saved me a decent amount of money. I've played a few of my favorite starting hands, too, like 8-9 suited and 9-10 suited, and have gotten the worst flops possible for those hands. I'm simply running bad, and am still looking for a way to cure such. I'm thinking about moving to Omaha High for a bit, but that's a hard game to find. I'm also thinking about moving to Stud, but I haven't played that in forever. I do need a break from Hold'em, because shit just isn't working right for me there. I've done plenty of reading....Doyle's "Supersystem" and Sklansky's "Hold'em for Intermediate Players", along with plenty of Card Player articles, but I'm still running bad. I hate not playing, but I need to find a way out of this fucking funk. By the way, it got up to 114F today. Talk about fucking hot. It felt like an oven. I know this post is boring, but shit.....bear with me.....Later on.

Mike

99F

One of the hardest things people new to Vegas have to get used to is this summertime heat. I was fine up until about 101F-102F, but today's 111F was a bitch. I watched the 11PM news and it was still 99F. WTF? Possibly a record tomorrow of 115F. Grrrrrrreat. So I ended up having two job interviews today, and was offered a job at a large strip casino. I accepted, and it's mine pending my drug test and background investigation. It's a security job, so it should be rather mundane, which is fine with me. Just think of all those pretty little cocktail waitresses.....mmmm. Ha, just kidding. I'm sure I'll have plenty to learn. Other than that, I have virtually nothing to say. No, wait. Hillary Clinton compared Dubya to Alfred E. Neuman of Mad magazine. I suppose when you have no ideas of your own, you have to resort to simple name calling. The dems wonder why they can't win an election. Duuuhhhhhhh. My favorite part is she may very well be the left's candidate in '08. Good times, I can't wait for that. I screwed up today and fell asleep after dinner and ended up napping from about 7 until 9. I see another 5am night coming on. Later on. Oh, on a side note, I've been sober for about four or five nights. That will change tomorrow, as we're having a home poker game, which often turns into a good drinking party.....

Mike

Long lines and Bad Pictures

With a title like that above, what could I be speaking about? The Nevada Division of Motor Vehicles, of course. Actually, it wasn't that bad. I got a Nevada driver's license today, after surrendering my Ohio driver's license. I guess I'm an official Nevada resident now. I registered to vote while I was there. Heaven forbid if I miss a chance to vote this ultra libber Harry Reid out of the Senate. So I walk in the DMV, which is the biggest DMV I've ever seen, and was astounded at the approximately 150 people I saw in there sitting around waiting for their numbers to be called. Reminded me of a really, really big deli counter at the supermarket. My number was G777, though. 777! The clerk who gave me that number mentioned that with a number like that, maybe I should head to the casino tonight. Too bad I didn't have that waiting number last night, since I lost $36. Damn. Anyway, they were very efficient because I waited for less than 40 minutes. I got my new license, but it had the worst picture of me I've ever had on a license. Did absolutely no justice for my incredible good looks. Ha! Just kidding. The picture looked like I was drunk, but damnit, I was sober! I swear! I have a job interview at a prominent strip casino tomorrow afternoon, so I have to go dig out my suit. I haven't gone yet today, so I came up with an idea. I'd walk to the nearest carryout store and back. I figure I'd walk rather brisk there and back. Only problem is I figured I'd pick up a pack of Marlboro Lights while I was there.
I asked a friend through email if she thought I was nuts for creating a blog. She said what I had to say might be interesting, since she has listened to hours and hours of my rants. I haven't told her yet that I created this, and am still struggling with the idea of telling those close to me that I have. I'll call this friend Kiesha, who I only through know through the computer. She and I met through another girl I used to chat with who was Kiesha's roommate. This was awhile ago, almost three years. I really tried my ass off to meet her, but she always shot me down. We both had feelings for each other, and at the time, she only lived about 2.5-3 hours away from me. She kept me at arm's length, as she described it, and probably for good reason. Kiesha is absolutely beautiful, smart, and well spoken. Of course, she's also 10+ years my junior. We still exchange email on a weekly basis and get to talk over AIM every so often. Funny how someone I've never met can occupy such a large chunk of my attention. Or is it? More on all that another time.
So I'm watching Dateline or one of those network news programs tonight, and they have a clip about "sideshows". They showed sideshows in Oakland, CA, where basically a large crowd gathers on a city street in the middle of the night to watch.....well.....cars do donuts on the pavement. Personally, I'd rather sit at home and watch reruns of Beavis and Butthead, but these folks were really into it. The problem is...among other things....is the violence that erupts. They had a "promoter" of these things on, who blamed the fact that these things even happen on the city of Oakland. He pointed out that in the ghetto, there's nothing to do. Like that is a fucking excuse for these pavement carnivals. Then he mentioned that no had ever gotten killed by a "sideshow". Dateline then went to an Oakland police officer who said "that is completely wrong". He said that this year alone there have been three homicides that started with altercations that began at "sideshows". This "promoter" was creating and distributing DVD's of the events, which also included lots of violence and even.....hardcore porn. Sex sells, baby, sex sells. One of my biggest problems with our society is that it has become "blameless". People refuse to take accountability for any of their actions, and that fucking outrages me. The media, society, liberals, lawyers....they just allow this to happen. "Hey, let's see how many minor , then major traffic and disorderly conduct laws we can violate, escalate to violent crimes all the way up to homicide, but then let's blame on the government, or anyone but ourselves." Fuck that. Well, one of my roommates has just talked me into going to the casino, so I'm off! Later on.

Mike

Not as hard as I thought it would be

Well, I think I've got this blog looking close to how I want it to look. I did stay home tonight, but then again, it is only 12:22am in Vegas, which is still early. I was sober last night, and I'm sober once again tonight. Now, with a comment like that, you might think I don't see many sober nights, and you're right. I am, however, gonna have one Bud Light before bed. Now that I've started this blog, I'm wondering who I want to tell about it. Maybe it would be smart if I told none of my friends. Ahhh.....who knows? Let's see how this works

Hello all. My name is Mike (even my real name), but the names included will be changed to protect the innocent and guilty and those who are suspect. I'm starting this blog because I've really enjoyed reading other's blogs, and I loved to read and leave comments. Since you've found mine, please feel free to comment. I'm an early to mid thirtysomething guy who came to Las Vegas just over two months ago. I quit my well paid full time job almost a year ago to play live and online poker. It just hasn't worked out the way I imagined. Maybe more on that another time. I left my home in the midwest for Phoenix to live with a woman who I thought might be the one, but that didn't work out, and now I'm staying with friends in Vegas. I just started looking for a job in the casino security industry, which I hope pans out for me because the last few days of poker haven't been the best for me. I feel I need a steady paycheck again until I work out the kinks in my texas hold'em game. It's nine thirty or so on a Saturday evening, and I'm considering staying home. Isn't every night in Las Vegas a Saturday night?
